Her walk reminds me of one of those Hollywood actresses exercising power while parading her "matrona" mentality, "ownership, down a hallway. A Faye Dunaway, perhaps. Meryl Streep’s forceful character in Prada? That most USA woman archetype is being recreated -once educated by previous versions of those powerful American women- by Julia Keheler in Puerto Rico. Add some background characters that resemble Lawrence Durrell’s Alexandria, and traces of of a colonial racist society will come to light, staged in today's Puerto Rico.
Ms. Keheler said that if she would be able to bring her people from the USA, she could achieve more at the Department of Education. Ms. Keheler is a prototype of a member of a colonizer society that while feeling very progressive herself, perhaps leftist and feminist and anti-racist, when moving into the colony joins the reactionary forces ruling the place: in this case, the islands of Puerto Rico. That strange combination can only be explained by greed and sense of taking over, control.
Ms. Keheler’s patronizing, presumptuous and “money grabbing” behavior and actions can be found, studied, discussed thoroghout diverse schools of thought, narratives, and has been extensively and widely recorded in books, thesis, reports. Ms. Keheler is neither unique nor exceptional -as her USA educated culture tends to make the believe to be.
Ms. Keheler is selling the Education of the Puerto Ricans; and is not only its buildings and students, but its over five hundred years history.
