Old colonies were controlled by another nation; neo-colonies, by the IMF and/or the Bank of China. The institutions doing the colonizing might be different; the colonization process is quite the same, including the illusions of autonomy and self sufficeincy that characterize the nationhoodies and other groups fixed on their identities.
