THE WHITENING OF THE CCNY BILINGUAL EDUCATION PROGRAM
A combination of factors (control over the selection and promotion process by white liberals trying to place people who think like them in the Program, latinos whose personal career goals were more important than supporting talented and committed upcoming Puerto Rican academicians, exclusion of ideas related to the colonial education offered to Puerto Rican children) transformed an academic program where the majority of its faculty was Puerto Rican -a rarity anywhere in USA Academia- to one where the majority is mostly white. And the College did not seem to notice or care that, instead of finding ways to hire and support an underrepresented minority- it allowed these forces to "push-out" Puerto Rican academicians.
