ALCOHOLISM AND GRANDIOSITY

I grew up with alcoholics. I was also on route to become one, but with the help of therapy and homeopathy I was able to deal with it without having to abandon the joy of drinking a few beers or glasses of wine, even a joint, once in a while. It is often the case that alcoholics will have low self-esteem; and, they can also experience periods of grandiosity, acting as if they are better than everybody else. Grandiosity and low self esteem are interconnected and can be obstacles in the path away from addiction. Those individuals exhibiting grandiosity have an unrealistic sense of their own importance and, often, a false measure of their power. They tend to appear pompous and pretentious to other people. They will have feelings of superiority and may even believe that nothing bad can happen to them, and when they experience a disturbing situation, event, they can go into a state of shock. I have been there. If people have lost touch with reality so much that they are fully convinced of their specialness, then this is usually referred to as delusions of grandeur. Luckily, I did not get to that point. Some members of my family did, and crashed. Not all were able to get-up and recover, find a path to having a sense of what life's reality is all about, like characters in one of those Hollywood movies recreating grandiosity.
