IMAGES, BIRTHDAY PARTIES AND TRUMP

During the day we played and went to schools together; later on, worked in the same offices, took the same subway from Queens to Manhattan, but when it came to projections, the images were very important; and some of us were of a different class, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, spoke in nonstandard dialects, and had social manners that did not match what was expected of the ruling classes. After so many decades of seeing the same formula applied again and again, it helped to understand why Trump, who grew up in Queens, did not want people of color in his fatherlands’s birthday parties.
