SEND THEM BACK AND BELONGING OR NOT AT THE PERSONAL LEVEL

Is belonging or not what is felt when listening to the planning of the big birthday party to which that or this colleague is not going to be invited or to the Latino students at City College choosing the European speaker lecturing at rich and white students’ mostly Columbia University over the Mexican Mayan Indians talking about their history at the Harlem campus of the proletariat or to be asked to leave the Workshop Center while white faculty were allowed to use it? How do the masses chanting “send them back” reflect the same fundamental attitude expressed by the man, the woman at the restaurant who got up and changed tables when listening to grandma speaking Spanish or the relatives excluding you from their social gatherings? Have we felt the desire to go back, to belong at the personal level?
