PUERTO RICAN HOME-MADE MACHINES AND THEIR "PASTELES"

If you are concerned as to the effects of the hurricanes on the future of Puerto Rico or the Puerto Rican communities, a review of each family home-made machine that is used to grate the "masa" for pasteles should erase any worries. Outside of the old "guayos" for grating the "guineos, yautías, yucas, calabazas", the only other gadget Puerto Ricans use are their carefully home-made machines. As strange looking as these kitchen utensils are, Puerto Ricans carefully protect and cherish these domestic creations. When viewing some photos of the one made and used by members of my extended family, as well as eating their "pasteles", I serve as witness to their efficiency. And if you eat those unique "manjares de los dioses", you would cherish that strange looking gadget too.
