The State had created a new teaching certification on Bilingual Special Education and some faculty members decided to proposed a new degree using the name Masters Degree in Bilingual Special Education. Against the arguments provided by faculty members who -after reviewing the suggested curriculum- expressed concerns that there was not enough research or bodies of knowledge that would add to even one semester’s course on the topic, much less a degree, the College approved the new curriculum. Nothing new to be surprised by, given the tendency at universities to come up with diplomas in order to meet State, political forces or corporations' demands: the new normal in academia.
