Santa Teresa was afraid, terrified of going to hell, and by being a descendant of converted Jews in Toledo -who had been persecuted by the Inquisition- led her into joining a convent as an adolescent. it is claimed that she suffered of insomnia and psychotic episodes; symptoms that have been reformulated by the Church as her ability to levitate. That is a rather strange approach to be proposed, in order to get into the higher ranks of the selected few; to argue in favor of meritocracy.
