Built at a time when the believers were brought closer to heaven thru the grandeur of the temple, Notre Dame du Paris cannot be compared with the simpler, oriented towards self reflection of the previous Catholic ones. Ecstasy was to be achieved thru pomposity; the new road to Paradise. To be in awe with the place and not with the inner self was the reason for the church to be. How many people worked to built such a structure, and how were the woking and living conditions of the workers? Did the men and women who carried the bricks, set-up the stained glass windows were also in a spiritual trance, feeling they were going to be granted salvation? Would they be members today of the “Yellow Vest” movement, the dwindling middle classes losing financial capacity all over the world, unable to keep up with the demands of the new cathedrals? Or would they support those, the most vulnerable, who have become the finer part of the cord holding humanity together, and say, they can also use those 1000 millions of dollars that Louis Vuitton and others, who control the contemporary path to glory, are donating to restore the beautiful church.
